NEW YORK (AFP) - Oil prices jumped higher Friday on renewed jitters over Iran's disputed nuclear program, as Israel's deputy Prime Minister, Shaul Mofaz, said Tehran was playing for time.

Oil markets were further unnerved as Washington set the weekend as a deadline for key crude producer Iran to reply to an international offer of incentives for a freeze in its nuclear drive.

During a visit to Washington, Mofaz warned that Iran was playing for time in dealing with the world community and was heading for a "major breakthrough" in its nuclear capability.

Israel and Washington fear Iran is seeking to develop a nuclear bomb, but Tehran denies this, saying its nuclear program is peaceful.

Eni and Sonangol E.P. made an important oil discovery in deepwater Block 15/06, located approximately 350 kilometers north of Luanda offshore Angola.

The exploration well (called Sangos 1) which led to the discovery has been drilled at a water depth of 1,349 meters and to a total depth of 3,343 meters. Sangos 1 has discovered an oil mineralization column 127 meters high, located within sands from the Miocenic Age with high permeability.

TEHRAN (Xinhua) -- Iranian Oil Minister Gholam Hussein Nozari has revealed that the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) will seriously consider rationing its oil production, the semi-official FARS news agency reported.

"I think OPEC will be serious about this issue" in case of continuous decline of crude oil prices and lack of oil output control by some OPEC members which keep high level oil production, Nozari was quoted as saying.

"Those members who have increased their production should control it," Nozari said, referring to the remarks made by some oil ministers of OPEC member states about the probability of reducing the production level of the oil.

"we have the responsibility to control the market and to be serious about the rations," he said.
